Is the World getting warmer? A large majority of them says yes. The average global temperature increase by 0.74 degree centigrade in 20th century. It rose by 0.60 degrees last century!!
Climate always change, temperatures have risen and fallen through out our earths history. Changes in Earths orbit, Suns intensity, numerous volcanic eruptions, etc have caused changes in temperature.
Mankind is being blamed for Global warming, coz earths orbit change will take us to cooler areas, not hot. Solar cycles are stable since 1960. Warmth of the last century is unprecedented in last 1200 years. As per climatologist ‘human activity is the most likely cause of the recent warming’. Burning of fossil fuel being the biggest reason.
Greenhouse Effect – Our Earth is kept warm, (and thus life sustainable for life) by a blanket of gases. Without these Greenhouse gases to trap the heat from the sun, the world would be a much-much cooler place to live…to survive in fact. CO2 being the most important, followed by methane and water vapour.
Overall Effect – Burning of coal, oil and gases since Industrial Revolution has released CO2 that has been locked away in the atmosphere for millions of years now. These higher levels of CO2 have enhanced the Greenhouse effect.
The evidence for this comes from he study of deep ice cores, which have bubbles of prehistoric air trapped in ice. The concentration of CO2 has gone up over last 150 years, from 270 ppm (parts per million), it has risen to 370 ppm today. The highest level ever in last 6,50,000 years !!
The Future – the UN climate council have predicted based on various models a rise in temperature between 1.1 degree C & 6.4 degree C by end of this century… alarming indeed!!
Evidence of Global warning – No single event can be linked to climate change. hurricane Katrina, droughts in Australia, melting snow caps of Mt. Kilimanjaro are not necessarily caused by climate change.
COP15 agenda – it’s the largest UN climate change conference in history. Two week long conference, the mood is upbeat after a series of promises by rich and developing economies to curb their greenhouse gases.
This gets serious as the organizers have warned participating diplomats that this could be a last chance for a deal to protect our world from global warming.
Now look at this CRAP –
- 140 aircraft will be used to fly 100 world leaders to Copenhagen.
- £ 6.375 million is the cost of flying 15000 delegates from 192 countries.
- 900 miles of computer cables have been laid for the 12 day conference.
- 41,000 tons of CO2 will be generated by delegates traveling to Copenhagen.
- £ 130 million total estimated cost of the conference.
..my wish..let us wake up and do our bit, the Reality .. our children will question us...
